Getting Started
Creating an Account
Open Magic Planning and tap Create Account on the welcome screen. You'll be asked for your email address. We'll send a one-time verification code to confirm your email, then you complete registration with your name and a password.
Creating Your First Trip
From the Trips tab, tap the + button in the top right. Enter a trip name, choose Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resort, and add optional travel dates. Once created, you can add park days, dining reservations, activities, tickets, flights, hotels, and a budget — all in one place.
Inviting Trip Members
Open your trip, go to the Group section, and tap Add Member. Enter the person's email address and choose their account type:
- Member — the standard type. Full view and edit access; included in budget splitting and cost tracking.
- Child Account — view-only access; included in budget splitting. A Child Account can be linked to a guardian (another trip member) so that the child's costs are attributed to the guardian in budget calculations.
- Viewer Account — view-only access; not included in budget splitting or cost tracking. Ideal for grandparents or others who want to follow along without being part of expenses.
- Travel Agent — full edit access like the trip owner; not included in budget splitting or cost tracking.
If the invited person doesn't yet have a Magic Planning account, they'll receive an email invitation and their account type will be set automatically when they sign up and accept.
Features
App Navigation
The iPhone app has five main tabs at the bottom: Trips (your vacation plans), World Traveller (the EPCOT game), Scrolls (your travel stats), Games (trivia and park games), and Profile (account and settings). On iPad, the same sections are available in a sidebar layout.
Inside a trip, you can choose between two display modes in Settings → Display Mode: Classic (a tab bar at the bottom with Itinerary, Dining, Chat, Budget, and a More menu) or Tile (all sections displayed as a customizable scrollable grid — press and hold any icon to reorder).
Background Music
Magic Planning can play Disney resort music in the background while you use the app. Tap the music note button in the top right of any trip view to start playback. You can choose from several resort-themed tracks. Music continues playing through your device's audio system even when your screen is off, and it automatically stops when you close the app or tap the button again. Volume is controlled by your device's media volume.
World Traveller (Premium)
A collaborative scoring game for groups visiting EPCOT's World Showcase at Walt Disney World. Available for WDW trips only. To start a session, open the World Traveller tab from inside a WDW trip, tap Begin Your Adventure, choose a starting country (Mexico or Canada), and select which group members are playing.
During your visit, log food, beverages, and snacks you try at each of EPCOT's 11 World Showcase pavilions — up to 5 items per country. Attach photos to any entry; photos go through automated content moderation before appearing to the rest of the group. Background music plays while you play, and a Live Activity on your iPhone Lock Screen tracks everyone's progress in real time.
World Traveller requires a Premium subscription or the standalone World Traveller add-on. If the trip owner has Premium, World Traveller is unlocked for the entire group at no cost to members.
Scrolls
Found on the Scrolls tab (sparkles icon), Scrolls shows a visual travel stats summary across all your trips for a selected time period — This Year, Last Year, or a custom date range. A swipeable carousel of animated stat cards covers miles flown, park days visited, attractions completed, EPCOT countries visited, dining reservations and snacks tracked, adventures (other activities), nights away, and Apple Health step counts. Tap any card to open a full detail view. Stats are cached for 24 hours; pull to refresh.
Day Planner (Magic Credits)
Found inside each trip in the Day Planner section, the Day Planner uses AI to generate a personalized itinerary for your day at the parks. Tap Plan My Day on a park day to open the planner. Select the attractions and shows you want to experience, add optional notes (e.g., "we have a toddler" or "we want to catch the parade"), and tap Generate. The AI builds a time-blocked schedule that factors in your selections, live wait time forecasts, show schedules, and any dining reservations or activities already on your itinerary.
Once a plan is generated it is saved to your trip and visible to all members — even those without credits can view an existing plan. During your park day, tap Rethink My Day to update the plan based on what you've already done. You can mark attractions as done or skipped and the AI will regenerate a fresh schedule for your remaining time.
Generating and rethinking a plan each consume one Magic Credit. See Magic Credits in the In-App Purchases section below.
Live Park Data
When you open a park day in your itinerary, Magic Planning shows real-time wait times for attractions, upcoming show schedules, and restaurant hours — sourced from the themeparks.wiki public API. Data refreshes each time you open the park day view.
In addition to current wait times, the park day view shows forecasted wait times — hourly wait time predictions for the rest of the day based on historical data. This helps you decide when to visit popular attractions. The park day view also highlights Lightning Lane availability for eligible attractions, so you can quickly see which rides offer Individual Lightning Lane or Lightning Lane Multi Pass.
Note that live data may occasionally be delayed or unavailable; always check the My Disney Experience app for the most accurate real-time information.
Wait Time Notifications
You can set a wait time alert for any attraction directly from the park day view. Tap the bell icon next to an attraction, enter your target wait time threshold, and Magic Planning will send you a push notification when that ride's wait drops to or below your target. Alerts are checked periodically in the background and automatically clear once triggered. You can manage or cancel active alerts from the park day view at any time.
Weather Forecasts
Weather forecasts appear on park day views and on your hotel check-in overview when your trip is within the forecast window. Forecasts are powered by Apple WeatherKit and are specific to the Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resort area. Forecasts beyond about 10 days may not yet be available.
Snack Tracker
Found inside each trip under the Dining section, the Snack Tracker lets you build a personal snack bucket list for your trip. Add items manually, or browse curated menus for Disney seasonal events (EPCOT Food & Wine, Festival of the Arts, Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and more). Check off snacks as you eat them and optionally attach a photo. You can also see what other trip members are planning to try.
Restaurant Polls
Found inside the Dining section, Restaurant Polls let the group vote on where to eat. Any trip member can create a poll with multiple restaurant options selected from the built-in list for your resort, or add custom entries. All members vote and results update in real time. Restaurants can be reordered within a poll by dragging. The poll creator or trip owner can close the poll at any time to finalize the result.
Buddy Pay
Found inside each trip under the Buddy Pay section, Buddy Pay is a quick way to log shared trip expenses without attaching them to a specific dining reservation or activity. Tap Add Expense, enter a description and amount, choose who paid and how to split the cost, and save. The expense feeds into the trip budget and calculates who owes whom.
You can also scan a receipt — tap Scan Receipt and take a photo or choose one from your library. Claude AI analyzes the image and extracts individual line items, tax, tip, and the merchant name. You then assign each item to the travelers who ordered it before applying the split. If the receipt can't be itemized, the app uses the detected total as a single expense.
All expenses you added appear in the Buddy Pay list. Expenses you created can be deleted by tapping the trash icon on that row.
Attraction Tracker
Found inside each trip under Attraction Tracker, this feature lets you build a ride bucket list for your trip. Browse attractions by park, add them to your list, and mark them as completed. You can attach a photo as a souvenir. Members of your trip have their own lists, and you can view everyone's progress side by side.
Shopping
Found under Shopping, the Shopping wishlist lets you plan resort merchandise you want to find. Add items manually or use Scan Item to take a photo — Claude AI reads the item and auto-fills the name and details for you. Check items off as you purchase them during your trip. The shopping list is not trip-specific; it persists across all your trips.
Packing List
Found under Packing List, this feature gives each trip member their own private packing list. Add items you need to bring, check them off as you pack, and clear completed items when you're done. Lists are stored per trip and per user, so each traveler manages their own.
Wellness
Found under Wellness, the Wellness tracker shows your steps taken, active calories burned, and exercise minutes logged during your trip dates. Data is pulled from Apple Health on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. You'll be prompted to grant Health access the first time you open this feature; you can revoke it at any time from Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Magic Planning.
Help & Support
Accessible from within the app via the Help button in the Profile area, the Help & Support screen has two tabs:
- AI Support Chat — a conversational AI assistant that can answer questions about Magic Planning features and general Disney park planning. Type your question (up to 200 characters) and receive an instant response. Chat history is preserved between app launches but automatically expires after 72 hours. Tap Clear at any time to start a fresh conversation. This feature is free.
- Ask an Expert — submit a question (up to 500 characters) to the human Magic Planning expert team. You can have one open question at a time; once it's answered, it's archived with the response and you can submit a new one. You'll receive a push notification when your question is answered.
Games
Magic Planning includes a Games tab with several games. Some are included free with every account; others require a separate purchase.
Magic is Out There (Trip Game)
A daily photo scavenger hunt for your trip. Each day of your trip has a theme prompt (set by the trip owner). To participate, you upload a photo from Walt Disney World property that matches the theme. The app uses your device's location to verify you're on-property before enabling the upload button — this is a client-side check to keep the game fair. After uploading, your photo goes through automated content moderation before it's visible to trip members.
There is also a Global mode that shows daily photos from all Magic Planning users currently at Walt Disney World, with a shared community theme set by us each day. Global mode is free. Trip Mode requires a separate purchase or a full premium subscription.
Trivia (Queue Game — Free)
Disney-themed trivia questions across a variety of topics — parks, attractions, films, characters, and more. Play solo or multiplayer with score tracking. Configure the number of questions and an optional time limit per question.
Timelines (Queue Game — Free)
A chronological ordering game. Each round presents three Disney films or events; players arrange them in the correct order from oldest to newest. Supports the same multiplayer and scoring options as Trivia.
Word Search (Queue Game — Free)
A Disney word search puzzle generated fresh each time you play. Find hidden words by tracing your finger across the grid. You can play up to 10 puzzles per day.
Park Hopper (Trip Game)
A photo scavenger hunt for your travel group. One player starts a game for your trip, choosing how many items to find (5–50). Claude AI generates a custom list of real, photographable objects spread across your trip's parks and hotels — each item is a specific thing you can walk up to and snap a photo of.
To mark an item as found, tap Found It! and take a photo or choose one from your library. Your photo is submitted as proof and becomes visible to all trip members. When a player finds all items, everyone on the trip is notified with a push notification. The game creator can end the game early at any time.
Photos submitted to Park Hopper go through automated content moderation. Park Hopper requires a separate purchase or a full premium subscription.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are Magic Credits and how do I get them?
Magic Credits are the in-app currency that powers the Day Planner AI feature. Each time you generate a new day plan or rethink an existing one, one credit is consumed.
Credits are purchased from Profile → Magic Credits. If your balance is zero, you can purchase the Initial Pack (250 credits). If you already have credits, you can buy Top-Up Packs (50 credits each). Credits never expire and carry over between trips. Your maximum balance is 5,000 credits.
Annual Premium subscribers receive 250 starter credits at no extra charge as part of their subscription.
If you run out of credits while using the Day Planner, you'll be prompted to top up without leaving what you were doing.
How does the Day Planner work?
The Day Planner generates a personalized, time-blocked itinerary for a park day. Here's how to use it:
- Open a park day in your trip and tap Plan My Day.
- Select the attractions and shows you want to experience. You can filter by rides or shows, and use Select All to grab everything.
- Optionally add notes (e.g., "we have young kids", "want to catch the evening parade").
- Tap Generate — this costs one Magic Credit. The AI builds a schedule that fits your selections, live wait time forecasts, show times, and any dining reservations already on your trip for that day.
The generated plan is saved to your trip and visible to all members. During the day you can tap Rethink My Day to mark what you've done or skipped and get a fresh schedule for your remaining time (also costs one credit).
Trip members who don't have Magic Credits can view an existing plan but cannot generate or rethink one.
How do wait time notifications work?
From any park day view, tap the bell icon next to an attraction to set a wait time alert. Enter the threshold wait time you're aiming for (e.g., "notify me when Space Mountain is under 30 minutes").
The app checks wait times in the background periodically and sends you a push notification as soon as that ride's wait drops to or below your target. The alert is automatically cleared after it fires so you won't receive repeat notifications for the same attraction.
Make sure notifications are enabled in Settings → Magic Planning → Notifications and that the Wait Time Alerts toggle is on in the app's Settings.
What do the different member account types mean?
When adding someone to your trip, you can choose from four account types:
- Member — standard trip member. Can view and edit the trip; included in budget splitting.
- Child Account — view-only access; included in budget splitting. You can assign a guardian (another member) so the child's share of costs is attributed to the guardian in budget calculations. This is useful for tracking family trip expenses accurately.
- Viewer Account — view-only access; not included in budget splitting or activity attendee lists. Ideal for extended family members or friends following along who aren't participating in expenses.
- Travel Agent — same edit access as the trip owner (can add, edit, and delete trip items); not included in budget splitting or attendee lists.
Only the trip owner can add or change member account types. Guardians for child accounts can be assigned or changed by the trip owner or by the guardian themselves.
Why aren't my dining or Lightning Lane notifications firing?
A few things to check:
- Make sure notifications are enabled in Settings → Magic Planning → Notifications on your device.
- Confirm the relevant toggle is on in the app's Settings → Notify Me About section.
- Check that your park day date and the dining reservation date are entered correctly — notifications fire based on the dates you've set in the app.
- Make sure your device was connected to the internet when the trip was saved, so the reminder was scheduled on the server.
Always verify time-sensitive windows directly with Disney, as dining reservation openings are subject to change.
Can I use Magic Planning for trips other than Walt Disney World?
Magic Planning supports both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort vacations. Features like Lightning Lane notifications, dining reservation windows, live wait times, and park day calendars are specific to Disney parks. It is not designed for non-Disney trips.
Note: World Traveller is only available for Walt Disney World trips, as it tracks EPCOT's World Showcase specifically.
How does flight tracking work?
When you add a flight to a trip, Magic Planning uses FlightAware to track it. To use flight tracking, you must enable Flight Data Sharing in Settings — this allows your flight details to be visible to other trip members, who may also receive push notifications about takeoff, landing, and cancellations.
You can revoke this consent at any time from Settings → Flight Data Sharing.
How does the Buddy Pay receipt scan work?
When you tap Scan Receipt in Buddy Pay, you take a photo or choose one from your library. That image is sent to our server, where Claude AI analyzes it and extracts individual line items, amounts, tax, tip, and the merchant name. The image is discarded immediately after the analysis — it is not stored.
You then assign each detected line item to the travelers who ordered it. Tax is distributed proportionally based on each person's food share; tip is split evenly. Tapping Apply fills in the amounts and split automatically. If no individual items can be detected, the app falls back to using the receipt's total as a single expense.
Budget Tracking and Buddy Pay require a Budget Tool purchase or a full premium subscription.
How does the Magic is Out There upload button work?
Magic is Out There is a WDW-specific scavenger hunt, so the upload button is only enabled when your device detects you are within Walt Disney World Resort property. This check is done on your device using your GPS location — we do not store your location on our servers.
If you're at the parks but the button is disabled, make sure you've granted Magic Planning location access in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Magic Planning. The app only needs "While Using the App" access for this feature.
Is there a limit on how many Word Search puzzles I can play?
Yes — to keep the experience fun and prevent abuse of puzzle generation, you can play up to 10 Word Search puzzles per day. The counter resets at midnight. Trivia and Timelines do not have a daily play limit.
Why is live wait time data missing or incorrect for some attractions?
Live park data in Magic Planning is sourced from the themeparks.wiki public API. While this data is generally reliable, there may be occasional delays, gaps, or inaccuracies — especially for newer attractions, seasonal overlays, or immediately after park opening. Always verify wait times in the official My Disney Experience app for the most accurate real-time information.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. To delete your account, go to Profile → Delete Account within the app. This permanently removes your account and all associated data. Trips you own will also be deleted; members of those trips will lose access. This action cannot be undone.
If you have trouble accessing the in-app option, email us at support@magic-planning.com and we'll process the deletion manually.
What happens when my subscription or feature purchase expires?
When a non-renewing purchase period ends, the features it unlocked (Budget Tracking, World Traveller, and/or the relevant games) will no longer be accessible. Your data is not deleted — if you purchase again, everything will be right where you left it. All free features remain available regardless of subscription status.
Magic Credits (for Day Planner) are separate from subscriptions and never expire — your balance carries forward even after a subscription ends.
I accidentally deleted a trip. Can it be recovered?
It depends on how it was removed. If a trip was ended (archived), you can find it under Profile → Past Trips — swipe right on the trip and tap Restore to bring it back. Archived trips are retained for 365 days.
If a trip was deleted (not ended), the deletion is immediate and permanent and cannot be recovered. Only the trip owner can delete a trip.
How do I change my email address or password?
Both can be changed directly in the app:
- Name or email address — go to Profile → Edit Name & Email and update the fields you want to change.
- Password — go to Profile → Change Password. You'll need to enter your current password to confirm the change.
If you've forgotten your password and can't sign in, use the Forgot Password link on the login screen to receive a password reset email.
The app isn't loading or I'm getting an error. What should I do?
Try the following steps in order:
- Check your internet connection.
- Force-quit the app and reopen it.
- Check that you're running the latest version of Magic Planning from the App Store.
- Sign out and sign back in from the Profile tab.
If the problem persists, email support@magic-planning.com with a description of what you're seeing and, if possible, a screenshot.
Is Magic Planning affiliated with Disney?
No. Magic Planning is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to The Walt Disney Company or any of its subsidiaries. Walt Disney World® is a registered trademark of Disney.
How do I start a Park Hopper game?
Open the Games tab, tap Park Hopper, and select a trip. If there's no active game, tap Start Game and choose how many items you want (5–50). Claude AI will generate a custom scavenger hunt for your trip's parks and hotels — this usually takes a few seconds.
Any trip member can start a game, but only the player who started it can end it early. Only one game can be active per trip at a time.
Park Hopper requires a Park Hopper purchase, an All Games Suite purchase, or a full premium subscription.
My Park Hopper photo was submitted but I'm not getting credit. What happened?
Every photo submitted in Park Hopper goes through automated content moderation before it's visible to other players. This usually completes within a few seconds. If your item still shows as not found after a minute or two, the photo may have been flagged and automatically removed for not meeting our content guidelines.
Photos must be appropriate for a family audience — no nudity, explicit material, or graphic violence. If you believe your photo was removed in error, tap Found It! again to resubmit, or contact us at support@magic-planning.com.
Why isn't my World Traveller photo visible to other trip members?
Every photo uploaded to World Traveller goes through an automated content review before it is shown to others. This usually completes within a few seconds, but the photo will remain hidden to other members during that time. Once the review passes, the photo will appear automatically the next time the game screen is refreshed.
If your photo never appears after a minute or two, it may have been flagged as not meeting our content guidelines and automatically removed. Photos must be appropriate for a family audience — they cannot contain nudity, sexually explicit material, or graphic violence.
If you believe your photo was removed in error, email us at support@magic-planning.com and we'll look into it.
How does the Wellness tracker access my health data?
The Wellness feature reads steps, active calories, and exercise minutes from Apple Health for the dates of your trip. When you first open Wellness, you'll be prompted to grant access — you can allow all three metrics or pick and choose. This data never leaves your device; it is displayed in-app only and is never transmitted to our servers.
To change or revoke access, go to Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Magic Planning on your iPhone.
How does photo screening work?
Magic Planning uses automated systems to screen photos before they are displayed to your trip members. This applies to photos uploaded in World Traveller, Magic is Out There, Attraction Tracker, Snack Tracker, and Park Hopper:
- On-device screening — if you have Sensitive Content Warning enabled in your iOS Settings, your iPhone may screen photos locally before they leave your device. This is entirely opt-in and controlled by your iOS privacy settings.
- Server-side automated review — every uploaded photo is analyzed by an AI content moderation system on our servers. Photos stay hidden until this review completes. Photos that do not comply with our guidelines are automatically deleted and never shown to anyone.
This process is fully automated — no human at Magic Planning views or reviews your photos. For more detail, see our Privacy Policy.
How do I cancel a monthly support subscription?
Monthly support subscriptions (Tier 1 and Tier 2) are standard auto-renewing subscriptions managed by Apple. To cancel, go to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone and select the Magic Planning support subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Support subscriptions do not unlock any in-app features, so cancelling won't affect your experience.
